Alchemy Scratch Culinary Education is a three part program that teaches both elementary students and food service professionals the importance, and the “how to”, of scratch cooking.
The first part of the program is a culinary education class for elementary and middle school students, where they learn about food science, sustainability, and basic culinary techniques. We are currently offering the program to Albert Einstein Academy and McKinley Elementary.
The second part of this program is professional food service worker training. We have partnered with a number of local food professionals from farmers to dietitians for an intensive training program that focuses on improving school lunch in San Diego County. We are currently working with San Diego Unified School District and throughout San Diego County improving school lunch.
The third part of our Scratch Division is the Alchemy School Lunch Program, where we feed San Diego County youth at six Navy Youth Centers around the metro area. Our staff prepares healthy, nutrient dense meals that surpass the USDA requirements for national school lunch. We distribute these lunches to over 250 youngsters during the summer and various holiday months.
